Recently, a great VSM (Volunteer Student Missions) group from Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas concluded a week-long mission trip to Puerto Rico. The trip, which took place May 13- 20, was filled with activities aimed at providing spiritual support and practical assistance to the local community. Here’s some of the things that happened during their impactful journey:

         • Monday, May 13 — The missionaries arrived in Puerto Rico at 1:20 p.m. This day was pretty much to settle in. Pastor Freddy outlined the week’s itinerary during an evening session, which concluded with lights out at 9 p.m.

         • Tuesday, May 14 — The day began with an 8 a.m. wakeup call followed by breakfast at 9:30 a.m. and then it was time to go do some evangelizing. The group set up an evangelizing station in downtown Cayey by one of the largest universities and later by the town’s main square, engaging with the community from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Lunch was enjoyed at a local restaurant. That evening was dedicated to a Bible study session, with the participation of the local church, the VSM team and many who connected to the church’s live online web pages. Around 150 at one time were watching the Bible study live, which wrapped up by 9 p.m.

         • Wednesday, May 15 — An early start saw the VSM team leaving for Old San Juan at 8:30 a.m. They spent the day exploring the historic district and talking with the locals.

         • Thursday, May 16 — After an 8 a.m. wakeup call and breakfast, Pastor Freddy led a missions training session at 10 a.m. That evening featured a music concert in the main worship area, starting at 5:30 p.m. with the participation of several VSM team members playing and singing, finger foods, pizza and beverages served afterward for all who attended from the local community. The day concluded with lights out at 11 p.m.

         • Friday, May 17 — The VSM team focused on service projects and spent the day painting various areas of the church building and getting to spend time talking about all the people they had met during the trip so far.

         • Saturday, May 18 — The day began with a prayer drive-thru at 10 a.m. Several tents were set up along one of the city’s main roads and signs that read, “Stop! We want to pray for you!” Many cars stopped, and a total of six people confessed Christ as Lord and Savior.

         • Sunday, May 19 — The group attended Sunday worship service at 10:30 a.m., and also participated with the church’s worship team singing in Spanish and English to the Lord. A trip to visit the Southern city of Ponce that afternoon was a great opportunity to talk to more people.

         • Monday, May 20 — The final day began with a wakeup call at 8 a.m. After breakfast and packing, the group had lunch at noon before heading to the airport at 1:30 p.m., concluding their mission trip.

Throughout the week, the VSM team efforts left a lasting impact on the local community by blending spiritual outreach with practical assistance. Their dedication and service exemplify the spirit of compassion and support and the love of Jesus Christ that defines what VSM is all about.
