BMA Pastor (and Wife) Celebrate 65 Years of Ministry and Marriage
BT Staff
On Saturday, Dec. 28, the family of Larry and Kathy Haynes will host a reception to celebrate Larry's 65 years of ministry and 65 years of marriage for the couple. Larry, as a pastor, and both he and Kathy in their marriage have exemplified commitment and faithfulness to the Lord and each other.
After graduating high school, Larry worked for Halliburton, driving a truck in the New Mexico oil fields. While he anticipated a career with Halliburton, God interrupted Larry’s plans and called him to the gospel ministry. Larry packed his bags, returned home, and soon enrolled at BMA Theological Seminary in Jacksonville, Texas. While he was enrolled at the seminary, Larry immediately began serving as the pastor of Monticello Baptist Church near Austonio, Texas. Two months later, on December 25, 1959, Kathy and Larry were married.
In addition to Monticello Baptist Church, Larry also pastored several other churches in Texas, including Black Jack Baptist Church in Troup, Bethel Baptist Church in Orange, Landmark Baptist Church in Cushing, and First Baptist Church in Joaquin.
In 1967, he returned to his home state of Oklahoma to serve as a state missionary, establishing Sunset Heights Baptist Church in Edmond. After the church was organized, he continued as the pastor and also took on the role of Director of State Missions for Oklahoma.
Subsequent pastorates included Bethel Baptist Church in Cabot; Southwest Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas; Fairview Baptist Church in Blytheville and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Carlisle. Interim pastorates included Meadowview Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, First Baptist Church in Caldwell and Foster’s Chapel Baptist Church in Searcy.
Larry and Kathy raised five children, all of whom are active in churches across Arkansas. Charissa is married to Allan Eakin, the pastor at Celebration Baptist Church in Haskell. John Haynes and his wife Pam attend Charity Baptist Church in Ward. Lisa is married to Ken Siler, who works on staff at First Baptist Church in Forrest City. Lori is married to Mike Silvey, who serves as the pastor at Central Baptist Church in Texarkana. Kerry is a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Blytheville. Larry and Kathy have 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, with 3 more expected soon.
The family invites friends of Larry and Kathy to celebrate their faithfulness to the Lord and to each other on Saturday, Dec. 28, at Veterans Park Event Center (508 N. Lincoln St.) in Cabot. Cards and letters may be sent to Lori Silvey, 108 MC525, Texarkana, Ark., 71854
