Chili Cook-Off

Homecoming activities began Wednesday, Jan. 26 with a chili cook-off in the Childers Dining Hall. This year, 10 teams competed for prizes. Students determined this year’s winners: Third place went to the Maintenance Department led by Byron Baker; second place was the Advancement Division led by Peggy Pillow and first place was the Admissions Department led by Lisa Padgett. Congratulations to all the winners.

1952 Bash

Friday night might have been cold, but it did not stop the 70th Anniversary kick-off. Students and Alumni were treated to an evening of 1950s fun! The evening began with a diner-style menu provided by CBC Dining Services, including hamburger or chicken sliders, spiral potatoes, fried pickles and bottled drinks. The event also included carnival games, face painting, funnel cakes and cotton candy.

Guests were entertained by the CBC Mustang Band, led by Director of Bands and Orchestra Dr. Danielle Hodges. The band played several songs, including “Love Me Tender,” “Shake, Rattle and Roll” and “Hound Dog.”

Endowed Scholarship Breakfast

Over 80 endowed scholarship donors and their students enjoyed a breakfast provided by our Dining Services staff. During the event, donors were able to visit with their students and the students were able to thank the donors for providing their scholarships. For the 2021-2022 academic year, 91 endowed scholarships were awarded totaling $66,200.

Alumni and Friends Luncheon

We had great attendance this year for the annual Alumni and Friends Luncheon, which was held in the Community Room of the Mabee Student Services Building. President Terry Kimbrow presented the following awards:

• Jo Ann Ratliff was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award for her 29 years of service in Education.

• Dr. Marvin & Deborah Cuevas received the Young Alumnus Award.

• Jimmy Elrod received the Mustang Community Impact Award.

• Dan Carson received the Mustang Ambassador of the Year Award.

Each year, proceeds from the Alumni Luncheon go toward the Kenneth Brown Endowed Scholarship. This year, the recipients of this scholarship are Taylor Collins, Robert Colvin and Emma Reddin

Crowning of the Queen

Mallory Guyton, a senior Communication major from Bryant, was crowned the 2022 Homecoming Queen.

Mustang Athletic Events

The CBC Basketball teams won both homecoming games — the women winning 72-55 and the men winning 71-49. Strong shooting and suffocating defense made all the difference during the second half. The CBC Band, along with a great homecoming crowd, helped both teams come away with a win! The Mustangs will be back at home on Feb. 8 vs. Lyon College. Games begin at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
