CBC SPORTS: CBC Softball Sweeps University of Ozarks

Softball
• Clarksville, April 11 — Stepping out of American Midwest Conference (AMC) play for an in-state midweek game, CBC was at Hurie Field for a doubleheader against the University of the Ozarks (U of O). CBC (23-15) pounded out 25 hits and 22 runs in a sweep of U of O (5-23) by scores of 12-3 and 10-0.
• Columbia, Mo., April 13 — Heading to the road in AMC play, CBC was at the Antimi Softball Complex for a doubleheader with the Cougars of Columbia College. CBC (24-16, 10-4 AMC) split with the Cougars (17-16, 12-4 AMC), capturing game one 3-1 before dropping game two 6-3. The win in game one was CBC’s first over Columbia since 2019 and their first in Columbia since 2016. It was the eighth time in program history that CBC has defeated Columbia in the regular season.
• Columbia, Mo., April 14 — Averie Ayers fired her second career no-hitter for CBC as they finished their six-game road trip with an AMC doubleheader against the Stephens Stars at Battle High School. Ayers’ no-hitter came in CBC’s (26-16, 12-4) 9-0 run-rule win in game two after they took game one over SC (15-22, 7-10 AMC) 5-3 in nine innings.
• Conway, April 17 — Playing their final AMC home doubleheader of the season, CBC took on the Scots of Lyon College at City of Colleges Park. CBC (28-16, 14-4 AMC) swept the doubleheader from Lyon (15-21, 3-13 AMC), winning game one 11-2 before taking game two 7-2. Katie Smith made history, stealing a base in each end of the doubleheader to give her 26 steals this season, a new single-season record. The previous record of 25 was set by Hunter Clark in 2018.
Baseball
• Little Rock, April 14 — With their usual home field, Burns Park, out of commission for the remainder of the season due to tornado damage, CBC began their two-week barnstorming tour with an AMC doubleheader against Columbia College (CC) at Gary Hogan Field. CBC (16-23, 4-10 AMC) dropped both ends of the doubleheader to CC (28-12, 11-3 AMC) 7-6 and 12-1.
• Little Rock, April 15 — Looking to salvage one game of their AMC series with Columbia, CBC was at Gary Hogan Field again for the finale of the series with the Cougars. CBC (16-24, 4-11 AMC) only scored in one inning, falling to CC (28-12, 12-3 AMC) 5-2.
Track & Field
• Warrensburg, Mo., April 14 — Competing for the second to last time before the AMC championships, CBC was at the University of Central Missouri Mule Relays. Ally Swaim qualified for the 100-meter hurdles final with a time of 15.13, then finished third in the 100-meter hurdle final, recording a time of 15.09. Ashleigh Gross-Mitchell recorded a long jump of 4.89, which was her second-longest jump of the season and the second-longest jump ever. Isaiah Stiger and Jadon Price both recorded personal records in the men’s long jump, with Stiger setting a new program record of 6.29 meters and Price recording the ninth-longest jump of all time at 5.77 meters. Josh Brown also recorded the fastest time ever in the men’s 100-meter hurdles, becoming the first Mustang ever to go under 15.5 seconds at 15.49.
Women’s Golf
• Alton, Ill., April 17 — Opening their final tournament before the AMC championship, CBC was on the course at the Spencer T. Olin Golf Course. Alyssa Hagewood had the best day of the female golfers, opening with a first-round 85 to sit in a tie for third. Three shots behind the first-round leader. Abby Kirby shot an opening round 93 and is in 15th place while Laney Crutchfield shot an opening round 107.
