CBC SPORTS: Lauren Anderson Earns Honors

Softball
• St. Louis, Mo., April 4 — For the second consecutive week, CBC has the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Athlete of the Week. Junior first baseman Lauren Anderson earned recognition this week after a huge week offensively. She joins teammate Allison Wagle as the Mustangs who have earned player of the week selections this year. Anderson played in eight games this week and batted .458 (11-24) with seven runs scored, two doubles, four home runs and 12 RBIs. She homered in three straight games against University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy and Harris-Stowe and capped off the week with a three-run blast in Sunday’s run-rule win over Hannibal-LaGrange. This is Lauren’s second athlete of the week award after she also earned one last season.
• Conway, April 4 — Playing their 10th straight game at home, CBC hosted the Buffaloes of Arkansas Baptist College (ABC) in a doubleheader at City of Colleges Park. CBC (18-14) earned two run-rule victories over ABC (7-25) shutting them out 8-0 in game one before capitalizing on mistakes to win game two 12-1.
• Conway, April 7 — Returning to AMC play, CBC hosted the Owls of William Woods University (WWU) at City of College Park. CBC (20-14, 8-2 AMC) took care of business, capitalizing on WWU (12-19, 6-2 AMC) mistakes to sweep the doubleheader 8-5 and 8-0.
• Conway, April 8 — Playing at City of Colleges Park for the final time this season, CBC hosted the Comets of Cottey College (CC) in an AMC doubleheader. Seniors Allison Wagle, Averie Ayers, Emily Cole, Heather Hoffman and Katie Smith were all honored before CBC (21-15, 9-3 AMC) split a doubleheader with CC (22-16, 10-2 AMC), dropping game one 7-4 before winning game two 9-8.
Baseball
• Paragould, April 4 — Stepping out of AMC play for a midweek contest, CBC was at Pioneer Park for a nine-inning contest with the Pioneers of Crowley’s Ridge College (CRC). CBC (15-19) posted season highs in hits and runs, ending the contest against CRC (11-16) in a run-rule 21-4 win. CBC scored in every inning except the third inning and had six extra-base hits among their season-high 22 knocks. The 22 hits tied for the third most all-time while the 21 runs are the third most all-time and mark just the seventh time ever that CBC has scored 20 or more runs in a game. CBC used six pitchers in a bullpen day with the win going to Jaxon Kirkhuff, who threw two scoreless innings to start the game.
• Hannibal, Mo., April 7 — Playing on the road for the second straight weekend, CBC was at Nichols Field for an AMC doubleheader with the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange University (HLGU). CBC (16-20, 4-7 AMC) split the doubleheader with HLGU (2-23, 1-10 AMC), dropping game one 4-3 before run-ruling the Trojans in game two 14-0.
• Hannibal, Mo., April 8 — After splitting the first two games of their AMC series, CBC was back at Nichols Field against the HLGU Trojans, looking to take the series. CBC (16-21, 4-8 AMC) led the whole way until the ninth inning, when HLGU (3-23, 2-10 AMC) tied the game before sending the Mustangs home with a 10-9 defeat.
Men’s Golf
• Mountain Home, April 4 — Returning to the site of last season’s AMC championship, CBC competed in the Battle at Big Creek. The Mustangs finished with a two-round total of 611 to finish seventh in a field of 12. Individually, Leopold Maes was the top finisher, placing in a tie for eighth with a total of 147, seven shots behind the winner from Blue Mountain Christian; Jakub Slapal was next, posting a total score of 149, followed by Suraprat Pareepart, who finished with a 153; Kitsakon Jairak, who shot a 164; along with individual Emmanuel LaBeur and Paul Gomez, who finished with a total of 173.
Women’s Golf
• Mountain Home, April 5 — Playing for the first time in two weeks, CBC was on course at the Big Creek Golf and Country Club for the Battle at Big Creek. Alyssa Hagewood finished in a tie for fifth, posting a two-round score of 160, nine shots behind the winner from Blue Mountain Christian. Laney Crutchfield shot a two-round score of 186, and Abby Kirby posted a score of 198.
Track & Field
• Little Rock, April 7 — Competing for the second time in as many days, CBC was on the track at the Little Rock Invitational. Ally Swaim competed in the 100-meter hurdles and recorded a time of 15.12 in the hurdles, good for third place. Ashleigh Gross-Mitchell ran a 13.51 in the 100-meter to set a new personal best time in that event, and she jumped 4.72 meters in the long jump, her second-best jump of the season.
