CBC SPORTS: Men's Basketball Wins Season Opener

Men’s Soccer
• North Little Rock, Oct. 22 — Beginning the final stretch of three of the final four American Midwest Conference (AMC) matches at home, CBC hosted the Eagles of Williams Baptist (WBU) at Burns Park. CBC (4-11, 1-4 AMC) allowed one goal in the first half and three in the second to fall 4-0 to WBU (7-3-4, 3-2 AMC). Jafar Chehade made two saves in his fourth straight start for the undermanned Mustangs. Hugh McAuley got off a couple of shots toward the WBU net, but both were turned away by the Eagle keeper.
• Columbia, Mo., Oct. 26 — Playing on the road for the final time in the regular season, CBC was at Marvin Owens Field for an AMC matchup with the Columbia Cougars (CC). CBC (4-12, 1-5 AMC) scored first and led at halftime, but surrendered six goals in the second half to fall to #20 Columbia (9-2-4, 4-0-2 AMC) 6-1. Parker Tebo netted the first goal of his career in the 26th minute on the third assist of the season from Hugh McAuley. Jasper Gadellaa also returned in net for the Mustangs and made 10 stops, his fourth career 10-plus save match.
Women’s Soccer
• North Little Rock, Oct. 22 — Returning home for a stretch of three of their final four matches at Burns Park, CBC hosted the WBU Eagles in an AMC contest. CBC (0-8-1, 0-5-0 AMC) failed to score, allowing three goals in the first half and four in the second to WBU (4-10, 2-3 AMC), falling 7-0. Rebecca Vandenburg made five saves in net.
• Columbia, Mo., Oct. 26 — Playing on the road for the final time this season, CBC played the Columbia College (CC) Cougars in an AMC contest at Marvin Owens Field. CBC (0-9-1, 0-6-0 AMC) allowed six goals in the first half and two in the second half to fall 8-0 to CC (13-1-1, 6-0-0 AMC). Rebecca Vandenburg made nine saves in goal for CBC.
Volleyball
• Paragould, Oct. 22 — Playing their third consecutive AMC match, CBC was at the Carter Activities Center for their first-ever conference tilt against Crowley’s Ridge College (CRC) and the 40th meeting all-time between the two schools. CBC (6-9, 4-3 AMC) fell in straight sets to CRC (6-11, 2-4 AMC) by scores of 14-25, 25-27 and 20-25. Madeline Freeman led the way in kills with nine, while Brooke Schmitz and Freeman were the co-assist leaders with 12 each and Kailee Walker paced the team in digs with 18, while Freeman added 13 and Kiana Chapa had 10. The Mustangs had 31 kills and hit .036 with two service aces, while the Pioneers had 39 kills, hit .197 and had 9 service aces.
• Walnut Ridge, Oct. 24 — Playing their final AMC road match of the season, CBC was at the Southerland Mabee Central for a matchup with the WBU Eagles. CBC (6-10, 4-4 AMC) won sets two and four but fell to WBU (6-17, 2-5 AMC) 3-2 by scores of 23-25, 25-22, 19-25, 26-24 and 11-15. Madeline Freeman had another triple-double, finishing with a team-leading 11 kills to go with 16 assists, also a team-high, and 13 digs. Faith Stone also reached double figures in kills with 10, while Brooke Schmitz pitched in with 10 assists and Kailee Walker finished with 27 digs to go with 10 from Sheridan Rogers. WBU scored 73 points in the match thanks to 54 kills, 9 aces, and 10 blocks, compared to just 54 points for the Mustangs on 43 kills, 6 aces, and 8 blocks.
Men’s Basketball
• Blue Mountain, Miss., Oct. 24 — Opening the 2024-25 season on the road, #14 CBC was at Tyler Gymnasium to face the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian University (BMCU). #14 CBC (1-0) led by two at halftime and had to comeback multiple times in the second half to beat BMCU (0-1) 79-76. Jonas Carlisle led the way for CBC with 20 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, 15 of his 20 points coming in the first half. Sage Borbon, Keryn Collins, Wade Williams and Gabe Johnson also finished in double figures, with Borbon and Collins both scoring 13, Williams put up 11 and Johnson finished with 10 points. The big difference in the game was the free throw line and in rebounding, where CBC was +9 at the stripe (27-18) and +16 on the glass (34-18).
• St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 28 — For the first time this men’s basketball season, #14 CBC has the AMC offensive player of the week. Jonas Carlisle earned the recognition this week for the first time in his career. Carlisle led the #14 Mustangs to a season-opening win on Oct. 24 at Blue Mountain Christian University. He had 20 points, 15 of which came in the first half, and a career-high 15 rebounds in the 79-76 victory. Carlisle and the Mustangs play their first game at Reddin Fieldhouse this season on Oct. 31 when they welcome the Ecclesia Royals to town. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
