CBC SPORTS: Palmer Sets Program Record

Athlete of the Week
• St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 9 — The American Midwest Conference announced their second cross-country athlete of the week for the 2024 season, and a CBC runner was selected for the first time ever. Chris Palmer, a freshman from Greenbrier, earned the honor after posting a program-record time in the Lyon Invitational this past weekend. Palmer finished second in the 27-man field, posting a program 5K record time of 17:55. He was the first runner in program history to eclipse the 18-minute mark in the 5K distance.
Women’s Soccer
• Pine Bluff, Aug. 29 — Opening the 2024 season on the road, CBC was at the Pumphrey Soccer Complex for a match against the Golden Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (UAPB). CBC (0-1) trailed at halftime 3-0 before falling 4-0 to UAPB (1-1).
• North Little Rock, Sept. 7 — Playing in front of a home crowd for the first time this season, CBC hosted the Eagles of Texas A&M-Texarkana (TAMUT) at Burns Park. CBC (0-3) couldn’t get a shot off against TAMUT (4-0), dropping the contest 9-0.
Volleyball
• Blue Mountain, Miss., Aug. 27 — Opening the 2024 season on the road, CBC took on the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian (BMCU). CBC (0-1) started strong but were ultimately swept by BMCU (6-2) 3-0 by scores of 13-25, 10-25 and 14-25.
• Conway, Sept. 5 — Playing in front of a home crowd at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse for the first time this season, CBC hosted the Lady Lions of Freed-Hardeman (FHU). CBC (0-2) dropped the match in straight sets to FHU (5-5), but by scores of 26-28, 24-26 and 23-25.
Cross Country
• Conway, Sept. 1 — Running for the first time in 2024, CBC competed at the UCA Bear Invitational at Beaverfork Lake Park. CBC had seven athletes compete between the men’s and women’s meet, with six competitors crossing the finish line. In the women’s race, Mackenzie Milligan posted the best time of 26:37.4 in the three-mile event. Bay Davis was next with a time of 29:33.8, and Alanna Bressler finished in a time of 30:22.90. In the men’s event, Chris Palmer made history, posting the first-ever sub-20-minute 3 mile, finishing in 17:15.97. Josh Brown was next with a time of 24:38.1, and Evan East crossed the line in a time of 26:42.6.
• Batesville, Sept. 6 — Running for the second time in less than a week, CBC hit the course for the Lyon Invitational. The event was a 5K for both men and women, with Chris Palmer competing on the men’s side and Mackenzie Milligan, Lindsay Risner and Bay Davis running for the women. Palmer became the first Mustang ever to post a top-five finish, crossing the line second with a program 5K record time of 17:55.70, making him the first Mustang to eclipse 18 minutes in a 5K. Milligan was the top finisher on the women’s side, crossing the line in 30:11.52 with Risner right behind her at 32:48.57 and Davis crossing at 34:43.24.
Men’s Soccer
• Siloam Springs, Sept. 3 — Looking to carry some momentum from Friday’s win, CBC was at Alumni Field for a match with the Golden Eagles of John Brown University (JBU). CBC (1-2) conceded a goal early and couldn’t capitalize late, falling 1-0 to JBU (3-0-1) in the third meeting between the two schools.
• North Little Rock, Sept. 7 — Returning home for the first time in over a week, CBC hosted the Eagles of Texas A&M-Texarkana at Burns Park. CBC (1-3) went in tied at halftime but allowed two second-half TAMUT (1-2-1) goals early and couldn’t recover, dropping the match 2-1.
Men’s Golf
• Kennett, Mo., Sept. 9 — Coming off a second-place finish at last week’s SCU Invitational, CBC teed off in the opening round of the Williams Baptist University Invitational at the Kennett Country Club. CBC shot a 283 to lead by 10 strokes after round one. Individually, Kitsakon Jairak and Suraprat Pareepart are the co-leaders after both fired first-round 68s for a one-shot lead. Cooper Hermann is tied for fifth after shooting an even-par 72, while Jakub Slapal shot a 75, and Preston Nestorenko shot an 81. Gustavo Bello, competing as an individual, fired an opening round 78.
Women’s Golf
• Kennett, Mo., Sept. 9 — Playing for the first time on a Monday this season, CBC opened play in the first round of the Williams Baptist University Fall Invitational at Kennett Country Club. Abby Kirby fired the best round of the day for CBC, shooting a 78 to sit in a tie for second, four shots off the lead. Laney Crutchfield opened the tournament with an 87, and Thaylia Ramirez shot a first-round 98.
