Men’s Soccer
• St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 18 — Trying to snap their current winless streak, CBC was at Spartan Field for an American Midwest Conference (AMC) contest against Missouri Baptist University (MBU). CBC (8-5-3, 1-3-2 AMC) couldn’t answer a pair of MBU (9-4, 3-2 AMC) goals in the first half, falling 2-0.
Women’s Soccer
• St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 18 — Looking to run their current AMC winning streak to three straight, CBC was on Spartan Field for a conference tilt against Missouri Baptist. CBC (6-8-1, 3-3 AMC) only took one shot and allowed two goals in each half, falling to MBU (9-4-2, 5-1 AMC) 4-0.
• Conway, Oct. 22 — Playing their final Saturday match of the season at home, CBC hosted the Stars of Stephens College in an AMC contest on Senior Day at the Centennial Soccer Complex. In a hard-fought match, CBC (6-8-2, 3-3-1 AMC) was unable to put a ball into the Stephens (1-12-3, 1-3-2 AMC) net, ending the match in a scoreless draw.
Men’s Golf
• Nixa, Mo., Oct. 18 — Clinging to a 10-shot lead entering the final round, CBC looked to put the clamps on the title on the course at Fremont Hills Country Club. CBC would close with a final round 302 to finish with a 605 and the champions by eight strokes over AMC rival Missouri Baptist for their first tournament win since the 2020 Freed-Hardeman Fall Invitational. Individually, Jakub Slapal would be the individual champion, winning by one stroke after shooting a final round 74 to win over Missouri Baptist’s Triston Buckley.
• St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 24 — For the second week in a row, a CBC men’s golfer has been selected as the AMC golfer of the week. Jakub Slapal earned his first career selection this week following Kitsakon Jairak’s selection last week. Slapal won the Fremont Hills Challenge individually, shooting a three-over-par 145 to win the tournament by one stroke and lead the team to their first tournament win in over two years. It was Slapal’s first career win and his third consecutive top-five.
Women’s Basketball
• Conway, Oct. 19 — CBC Coach Lyle Middleton has completed his 2022-23 recruiting class and announces eight new Mustangs joining the stables this fall: Emma Bates from Paragould, where she was a three-time all-state selection and three-time defensive MVP at Greene County Tech, where she also finished as the school’s all-time leader in steals, assists and three-pointers; Kenzie Parker, who is currently playing women’s soccer, comes to CBC from North Arkansas College where she averaged eight points and five rebounds per game over two seasons; Jenell Light, a native of Cuba, Mo., comes to CBC from Greenville College; Olivia Lambrigtsen, who hails from Mount Morris, Ill., joins the Mustangs from Kishwaukee College in the Chicago area, where she was a first-team All-Arrowhead Conference selection and a first-team All-Region IV selection last season; Rhys Anderson comes to CBC from Seminole State in Oklahoma, where she averaged a very balanced, 7.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game over the last two seasons; Kristan Hargrove, a native of Marshall, comes to CBC from North Arkansas College as well, where she shot over 50% from three in her two seasons; Tamara Christmas comes to CBC from Lincoln Trail College in Ill., where she played in 25 games last season; and Maele Van Houtert, a native of the Netherlands, joins the Mustangs from fellow NAIA institution William Penn, where she redshirted last season.
• St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 24 — The AMC has released the 2022-23 women’s basketball preseason poll and CBC was picked eighth by the AMC coaches. CBC is coming off a 15-16 season and their third straight trip to the AMC Tournament.
Cross Country
• St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 22 — Competing for the final time before the conference championship, CBC was on the course at Francis Park for the St. Louis Fall Classic. CBC had two runners compete in the meet — Ally Swaim and Ashleigh Gross-Mitchell. Swaim posted a time of 24:56.33 and Gross-Mitchell set a time of 25:12.56.
Men’s Basketball
• St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 24 — The AMC released their preseason men’s basketball poll and CBC was chosen to finish fourth in the AMC this season. The Mustangs were fourth in the AMC last year and made the AMC semifinals for the fifth straight season.
Wrestling
• Conway, Oct. 24 — CBC Coach Ken Prophete has finalized his recruiting class for the upcoming 2022-23 season. Five recruits will join the wrestling team when the season gets underway in November: Darron Harvey, Jr., a heavyweight, comes to CBC after spending the last couple of years at Arkansas Baptist; Isaiah Hendrix, also from Arkansas Baptist will wrestle at 141 pounds; David Corretjer comes to CBC from West Palm Beach, Fla. and will wrestle at 125 pounds; Caelyn Pettis is a native of Searcy and will also compete at 141 pounds; and Guillermo Ramos comes to CBC from Hialeah, Fla. and will wrestle at 157 pounds.
