CBC SPORTS UPDATE: Wrapping Up the Regular Season

Baseball

• St. Louis, Mo., April 21 — Looking to carry momentum into their final American Midwest Conference (AMC) road series of the season, CBC was at Hornets Park for a doubleheader with the Harris-Stowe State Hornets. CBC (19-24, 6-11 AMC) pounded the baseball for 29 runs and 30 hits in a sweep of HSSU (6-31, 2-15 AMC), winning 11-3 and 18-11.

• St. Louis, Mo., April 22 — Having already scored 28 runs in the first two games of the series, CBC looked for a sweep against Harris-Stowe State in the finale of their AMC series at Hornets Field. CBC (20-24, 7-11 AMC) scored three touchdowns and a field goal to beat HSSU (6-32, 2-16) 24-17. The 24 runs scored is the second most in a single game all-time, and Austin Teal led the way with four hits and five RBIs.

• Conway, April 27 — Opening their final AMC series of the season, CBC hosted the Owls of William Woods University at Bear Stadium on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas. CBC (20-25, 7-12 AMC) got behind early, tied the game twice, but couldn’t come up with a clutch hit, falling to WWU (27-17, 12-7 AMC) 5-2.

• Conway, April 28 — Wrapping up the regular season with an AMC doubleheader, CBC hosted the Owls of William Woods University at Bear Stadium on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas. CBC (21-26, 8-13 AMC) split on the final day of the regular season, dropping game one 9-0 before coming back to win game two 9-7 over WWU (28-18, 13-8 AMC).

Track & Field

• Jonesboro, April 22 — Competing for the last time before the AMC Championships, CBC sent three athletes to compete in the Arkansas State Red Wolves Open. Isaiah Stiger jumped 6.00 meters and finished in eighth place but recorded his seventh career jump of at least six meters. Ally Swaim finished in sixth place in her event, posting a time of 15.43 seconds, and Josh Brown ran a 15.78 in his event, good for 10th place.

Softball

• Walnut Ridge, April 22 — Putting a bow on AMC play, CBC was at Lady Eagle Field for a doubleheader against Williams Baptist. CBC (30-16, 16-4 AMC) got clutch hitting in later innings to sweep WBU (18-26, 9-11 AMC) 6-5 and 3-2 in eight innings.

• Conway, April 24 — Playing at City of Colleges Park for the final time this season, CBC hosted the Pioneers of Crowley’s Ridge College (CRC). CBC (32-16) pushed their winning streak to eight in a row, sweeping CRC (18-14) by scores of 19-2 and 12-1.

Women’s Golf

• St. Louis, Mo., April 24 — The AMC announced their women’s golfer of the week and CBC’s Alyssa Hagewood was selected. This is the third time this season that Hagewood has earned recognition. She won the MBU Invitational for her first career win last weekend, shooting an 85 and a 79, the only player to break 80 in either round.

Men’s Golf

• Mountain Home, April 24 — Playing for the final time this season, CBC teed off for the first 36 holes of the 54-hole AMC championship at Big Creek Golf and Country Club. CBC shot a 305 and 299 for a two-round score of 604 to put them in fourth place, 19 shots behind first day leaders Columbia.

• Mountain Home, April 25 — Entering the final round in fourth place, 19 shots off the lead, CBC looked to improve their position on the final day of the AMC Championship. CBC posted the low round of the day as the team combined to shoot a seven-under-par 281 to finish with an 885 in third place, 12 shots behind the winners, Columbia College. Individually, CBC had two medalists. Leopold Maes posted a final round 65 (-7) to finish in a tie for second with a three-under 213, two shots behind the individual winner. Kitsakon Jairak also earned a medal, finishing in a tie for fourth after carding a final round 70 to finish at an even par 216.
