Good Soil Evangelism And Discipleship Conference
BT Staff
Do you remember the parable of the sower? What were the different types of soil? After sharing the parable, Jesus later explained to the disciples: “When anyone hears the word about the kingdom and doesn’t understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the one sown along the path. And the one sown on rocky ground — this is one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy. But he has no root and is short-lived. When distress or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he falls away. Now the one sown among the thorns — this is one who hears the word, but the worries of this age and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. But the one sown on the good ground — this is one who hears and understands the word, who does produce fruit and yields: some a hundred, some sixty, some thirty times what was sown” (Matt. 13:18-23 CSB).
Have you ever thought about this parable and the lessons we can learn about the different types of soils and how they apply to our overall evangelism process? Could you identify these different types of “soil” in your circle of influence? Have you struggled with presenting the gospel in a way that listeners truly understand the message? Would you be interested in learning more about an approach called Good Soil Evangelism and Discipleship (GSED)?
One of the distinctive features of the GSED evangelistic approach is that it uses “the Bible’s redemptive story, from Genesis through Revelation, allowing the participant to have his/her own ‘aha’ moments as mysteries of the Bible are progressively revealed through the study.”
This evangelistic Bible study could be used in a one-on-one setting or in small groups. It is possible to present God’s redemptive story in as few as 15 minutes or as long as 20 or more hours. The Story of Hope (GSED booklet) includes a study of 40 Bible events (20 Old Testament and 20 New Testament). In summary, Good Soil is a great “no pressure” way for non-Christian participants to clearly understand the gospel so they can sincerely embrace Jesus as Savior. It is also a helpful tool to teach God’s redemptive plan to believers. (To learn more, visit: (goodsoil.com/about.)
