The BMA Seminary’s Board of Trustees chose Pastor Richard Smith (MAR ‘95) to receive the BMA Seminary’s distinguished Kellar Award for 2022.
Originally from Oklahoma, Smith earned the AA degree from Jacksonville College and a BA degree from East Texas Baptist University before earning his graduate degree in religious education from BMA Seminary.
He has ministered in five Texas churches, with his current service being more than 29 years as lead pastor for the Farley Street Baptist Church in Waxahachie.
Bro. Smith has also served the BMA as president of ABS college ministry, BMA of Ellis Hill, BMA of Texas and the BMA of America.
He and his wife, Kim have three grown children and seven grandchildren.
The Kellar Award was created to honor seminary graduates whose ministries typify that of Dr. Gerald D. Kellar, founding president of BMA Seminary. Kellar served as president from 1956-1967. He was instrumental in organizing the BMA of America and served as president of each BMA institution of higher learning.
