STUDENT MINISTRY: Free Stuff
Dan Carson
For most of us in ministry, our favorite four-letter word is “free.” Love might be at the top of your list, but “free” is at least in your top 10. While we always enjoy hearing that something is free for our personal interests, free things for ministry can excite us. We are constantly trying to balance our desire for great ministry resources with a budget that often doesn’t allow for much.
If you are part of our Student Ministry Matters Community on Facebook, you may have noticed that I have shared a couple of free books as they became available. This week, I want to share how you can access those books and more. Publishers regularly provide free eBooks to gain your business.
• 10ofThose.com — You receive a free eBook each week when you sign up for their email list. 10ofThose.com offers high-quality books at reasonable prices. If you visit our website (StudentMinistryMatters.com), you will see that this company powers our bookstore. They make a concerted effort to provide theologically sound material. They refrain from carrying certain books due to the author’s theological leanings.
• The Good Book Company — This publisher has been very helpful to our Student Ministry Worker Retreats. They provide free books for the events and care deeply about impacting the Christian community with theologically sound material. They give away one eBook each month at thegoodbook.com/free-ebook.
• Crossway — Crossway doesn’t offer many free resources, but occasionally, they provide items to churches and ministries. It would be beneficial to join their email list. Recently, I received 50 Christmas devotional books from Paul David Tripp’s new devotional, Everyday Gospel.
• Logos — Logos is a Bible software company that provides a digital platform for study as well as lesson and sermon preparation. Every month, they give away two books and an audiobook. If you are a subscriber, you will receive an additional book.
During Pastor Appreciation Month, organizations and publishers provide additional free resources for pastors. Many great free resources are available if you know where to look. Start with some I mentioned and search for others. However, if you find some, don’t keep them to yourself. Please share with us on Facebook.com/groups/StudentMinistryMattersCommunity.
