Arkansas WMA Challenged by Texas WMA
by Kelly Williams, Arkansas WMA Promoter
As we gathered for our retreat back in September, we had two visitors from the Texas WMA. National WMA President Charlotte Johnson and Chairman of the Project Promotion Committee of the National WMA Diana Morris challenged the Arkansas WMA to see who can raise the most funds for the National Project — Daniel Springs Baptist Camp in Gary, Texas.
Many of you may remember that the Mississippi WMA challenged us a few years ago and we were able to raise about $10,000 more than they did! Of course, Texas has more BMA churches than Arkansas, but I don’t believe that will help them!
Those who know me know I am extremely competitive and hate to lose, but ladies, this is the place where many children come to know Christ and young people surrender to the Lord’s ministry. This is a worthy project for us to get behind!
Here are a couple of ways you can raise funds without too much difficulty:
Our church (First in McNeil) puts up a Christmas tree in the foyer each year. A few years ago, we started “renting” the ornaments to our congregation. This is how it works: for $5 our folks can rent a red ornament in honor of someone (grandparents love to do this for each of their grandchildren) and $5 for white in memory of someone. Then we write the names and the year on those ornaments with a paint pen. Then next year, they are able to do it again and we only have to add the year. This is quick and easy.
Another idea is to host a dessert auction. We recently held our first of these events and raised almost $700, and we are not a big church either.
I challenged each church (whether you have a WMA or a ladies’ ministry) to commit to try! Every dollar counts, ladies! All funds must be received by National Treasurer Janet Widger by Feb. 28, 2023 to be counted toward this year’s goal.
If I can help in any way with your ladies’ ministry, please let me know. I’m happy to be serving as president of the Arkansas WMA, and I know we can make a difference! (kelgirl0805@gmail.com)
