BMA Pastor’s Wife Dies

Jo Ann (Enlow) Blaylock, 87 of Jacksonville, Texas passed away March 3. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Texas and the wife of James C. Blaylock, who pastored churches in Texas, including First Baptist Church in Maydelle and Corinth Baptist Church in Jacksonville. He also served as the director of the Baptist News Service and the library director for the Gerald D. Kellar Memorial Library at BMA Theological Seminary.

Jo Ann graduated from the Sylacauga School of Nursing in Sylacauga, Ala, as a registered nurse in 1960. She worked for the North Mississippi Community Hospital in Tupelo and then at the Nan Travis Hospital (East Texas Medical Center/UT Health) in Jacksonville from 1962-1998, receiving her 35-year pin just prior to her retirement in May 1998.

She was pleased to keep her nursing license after retiring for medical mission trips. Along with her husband, she joined the mission team from Harrisburg Baptist Church in Tupelo, Miss., to travel to Honduras for nine consecutive years (2006-2014), where she used her nursing skills to serve those living in remote villages. Her work sharing the love of Jesus Christ enabled James to preach evangelistic messages at daily meetings.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Jacquelyn Ann (Dr. Jeffrey) Bryan and of Lebanon, Ohio; a son, John Thomas (Holly) Blaylock of Jacksonville; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held March 6 at 10 a.m. at Autry Funeral Home (autryfuneralhome.com) in Jacksonville, Texas, with interment at Jarratt Cemetery.

Donations may be made in her memory to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas 75701.
