CBC PROFILE: Tower Media Recognized at Media Association Competition

Central Baptist College Tower Media students competed at the Arkansas College Media Association competition at Ouachita Baptist University on April 12. A total of 16 colleges competed, and our students brought home several awards.

In the general excellence awards, Senior Emily Pharr won third place for designer of the year for the Tower, and the 2023 Carillon received an honorable mention for yearbook of the year.

Our students also brought home three individual awards. Junior Mason Crymes won third place in newspaper headline writing, and juniors Candyce Slayton and Grace Vandergriff won second place for best video podcast.

Emily Owen won several awards for her work on the Carillon. She received first place for student life writing, third place for organization writing, third place for academic writing and third place for divider page.

Tower Media Faculty Advisor Ann Gardner is very proud of the work our CBC students have put forth. “Tower Media has a core group of students who put out much effort in producing news for the campus. They work well together, and these awards are the result,” Gardner said.

She offered special praise when considering Emily Pharr’s third place standing as designer of the year. “Emily Pharr deserved this award for designer of the year. The pages of the Tower have stood out this year because of her newspaper design skills. I’m very proud of her.”

Like Mrs. Gardner, CBC faculty and staff are very proud of all these students, and we look forward to seeing what Tower Media produces next year.
