CBC SPORTS: Athletes of the Week

• St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 9 — The American Midwest Conference (AMC) announced their men’s and women’s soccer athletes of the week, and a pair of CBC Mustangs were represented on this week’s team as Goalkeepers Bailey Walerczyk and Jasper Gadellaa were named defensive players of the week. Walerczyk played in two matches and made 22 saves, with an .815 save percentage this week. That effort included nine saves in Saturday’s draw at William Woods. Gadellaa also played in two matches this week, making 21 saves with a save percentage of .840. He posted 10 saves in Monday’s loss to #13 Bethel before making 11 saves to preserve the draw with William Woods on Saturday.

• St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 16 — For the second consecutive week, CBC has swept the AMC player of the week awards in soccer as Vitoria Loiola and Daniel Pinkney were named AMC Offensive Players of the Week. Loiola earned her second award of the season and the second of her career after registering nine points in Tuesday’s win over University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy (UHSP). Loiola scored a hat trick and contributed to the other three goals in Tuesday’s 6-2 win over UHSP to give CBC three wins in the AMC this year. She was previously AMC Athlete of the Week back in August. Pinkney scored a brace in Tuesday’s 2-2 against the Eutectics. His first goal tied the match, and his second goal gave the Mustangs a brief lead in what ended up being their third draw of the AMC season.

Volleyball

• Conway, Oct. 10 — Playing their third straight match inside the friendly confines of A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse, CBC hosted the Saints of Randall University (RU). CBC (10-9) dropped the first and fourth set, but won sets two, three and five to down RU (15-8) 3-2. Faith Stone and Caitlyn Miller paced the Mustangs in kills with 11 apiece, while Molly Murphy led in assists with 21 and Mikayla Lawrence led in digs with 21. CBC had 50 kills and hit .190 and dominated at the net, posting seven total blocks to just four for Randall.

Men’s Soccer

• Conway, Oct. 10 — Hosting an AMC opponent for the first time at home this season, CBC took on the Eutectics of the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis at Centennial Soccer Park. CBC (4-7-3, 0-0-3 AMC) trailed 1-0 at halftime but got two second half Daniel Pinkney goals to salvage their third straight AMC draw, 2-2, with UHSP (3-6-2, 0-2-1 AMC).

Women’s Soccer

• Conway, Oct. 10 — Playing an AMC opponent for the first time at home this season, CBC hosted the Eutectics of the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis at Centennial Soccer Park. CBC (4-7-3, 2-0-2 AMC) remained unbeaten in conference play, scoring two in the first half and four in the second half to beat UHSP (1-6, 0-4 AMC) 6-2. Vitoria Loiola scored twice, while Samara Hernandez, Danna Lozano, Mara Taylor and Amanda Parreiras also scored goals. Loiola and Parreiras both had multiple assists, with Loiola notching three and Parreiras notching two. The six goals are season high for the Mustangs, who moved into second place in the AMC on eight points with three matches left.

Men’s Golf

• Henderson, Tenn., Oct. 16 — Teeing off for their final tournament of the fall, CBC was on the course at Chickasaw Golf Club for the first round of the Freed-Hardeman Fall Invitational. CBC shot an opening round 307 and is two shots off the lead, held by Mississippi University for Women. Individually, Kitsakon Jairak is tied for the lead after shooting an even-par 72 for the round. Emmanuel LaBeur is also in the top-10, tied for eighth after firing a 77 in round one. Preston Nesterenko is next, one shot behind LaBeur, while Jakub Slapal shot an opening round 80 and Leopold Maes shot an 81, along with individual competitor Suraprat Pareepart.

Women’s Golf

• Henderson, Tenn., Oct. 16 — Opening play in their final tournament of the fall, CBC teed off at the Freed-Hardeman Fall Invitational at the Chickasaw Golf Club. CBC shot an opening round 359 and is in sixth place, 46 shots behind the leaders. Individually, Alyssa Hagewood shot a 77, which puts her in third place, nine shots behind the first-round leader. Laney Crutchfield was next after shooting a 92, followed closely by Abby Kirby, who was one shot behind Crutchfield. Thaylia Ramirez posted an opening round 97 and Kara Keathley shot a 110.
