CBC SPORTS: Borbon Impressive Again
Men’s Basketball
• Conway, Dec. 17 — #13 CBC faced off against the #3 Lions of Freed-Hardeman at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (11-3) kept pace with FHU (14-1), the reigning NAIA Champions, for a half before ultimately losing 89-84. Sage Borbon delivered another impressive performance, scoring 26 points, bringing his total to 69 over two games against the Lions. Wade Williams also contributed with 19 points, and Gabe Johnson added 13. The Lions outscored the Mustangs 52-34 in points in the paint, while also being outscored by bench players 38-10.
• Conway, Jan. 7 — Playing for the first time in 2025, #13 CBC hosted the Pioneers of Crowley’s Ridge College (CRC) for the first time as an American Midwest Conference (AMC) rival inside A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (12-3, 6-0 AMC) never trailed, leading by as many as 30, and saw the score only tied once, cruising to a 90-64 win over CRC (9-6, 3-2 AMC). Four players finished in double figures scoring, led by Brian Alexander, who had a career-high 19 points off the bench. Defense was the name of the game for the Mustangs, as they held the Pioneers to just 37% shooting from the field and forced 19 turnovers, which they converted into 20 points.
• Conway, Jan. 11 — After not seeing a basketball court for two days following snow in Central Arkansas, #13 CBC returned to the court at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse for an AMC matchup with the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange University (HLGU). #13 CBC (13-3, 7-0 AMC) led by one at halftime and never let HLGU (5-8, 2-4 AMC) get within three in the second half before icing the game at the free throw line 84-75. Sage Borbon and Gabe Johnson were the only Mustangs in double figures despite a hot shooting night from the field. The Mustangs were able to capitalize on defense and rebounding as well as points in the paint to remain undefeated in conference play.
Women’s Basketball
• Conway, Jan. 7 — Playing for the first time in the 2025 calendar year, CBC hosted the Pioneers of Crowley’s Ridge College (CRC) in an American Midwest Conference (AMC) contest at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (6-5, 4-3 AMC) led after every quarter and defeated CRC (5-7, 1-6 AMC) 89-68. Five players finished in double figures scoring for the Lady Mustangs, led by Aliya Grotjohn with 19 points. CBC outshot CRC 47% to 37% from the field, were plus-11 on the glass and turned 15 Pioneer turnovers into 21 points.
Wrestling
• St. Louis, Mo., Jan. 11 — Competing for the first time in 2025, CBC was on the mat at the Tom Smith Invitational, hosted by Missouri Baptist. Three wrestlers competed in three weight classes for the Mustangs. Isaiah Hendrix went 0-2 at 157 pounds, dropping both matches by technical fall. Jordan Allen-Smith lost five matches at 197 pounds, all five by fall. Juan Luis-Tapia lost both of his matches at heavyweight, one by major decision, the other by fall.
