CBC SPORTS: CBC Softball Starts Roadtrip in 3-Way Tie For Conference Lead
Softball
• St. Louis, Mo., April 8 — Entering the day in a three-way tie for first place in the American Midwest Conference (AMC), CBC took on the 15th-ranked Spartans of Missouri Baptist (MBU) at Spartan Field. CBC (21-17, 10-2 AMC) split the doubleheader with MBU (28-6, 10-2 AMC), dropping game one 9-0 before winning game two 3-2.
• Columbia, Mo., April 11 — Looking to carry some momentum from their Tuesday win, CBC took on the AMC #1-ranked Columbia Cougars (CC) at the Antimi Softball Complex. CBC (21-19, 10-4 AMC) was swept in the doubleheader by CC (22-8, 13-1 AMC), losing game one 7-1 before falling in a 10-1 run rule in game two.
• Columbia, Mo., April 12 — Looking to end their road trip on a high note, CBC took on the Stephens Stars in an AMC doubleheader at American Legion Field. CBC (22-20, 11-5 AMC) split the doubleheader with SC (13-17, 7-5 AMC), winning game one 11-1 in six before dropping game two 8-7.
Baseball
• Little Rock, April 8 — Looking to salvage at least a split in their AMC series with #23 Missouri Baptist (MBU), CBC hosted the Spartans at the Pulaski Academy Baseball Complex. CBC (21-20, 17-11 AMC) couldn’t muster the offense, dropping the doubleheader 5-2 and 11-4 to MBU (28-9, 23-5 AMC).
• Conway, April 11 — Opening their final home AMC series of the year at Bear Stadium at the University of Central Arkansas, CBC hosted the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange University (HLGU). CBC (23-20, 19-11 AMC) swept the doubleheader, winning game one 16-2 before shutting out HLGU (7-25, 6-24 AMC) 4-0 in game two.
• Conway, April 12 — Looking to finish a series sweep for the second time this season, CBC hosted the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans in an AMC doubleheader on Senior Day at Bear Stadium. CBC (25-20, 21-11 AMC) finished the sweep of HLGU (7-27, 6-26 AMC), winning 7-4 and 4-0. Sixteen seniors, the largest class ever for the baseball team, were honored before the games. Included in the pregame festivities was a plaque awarded to head coach Dr. Aaron Brister, recognizing his 500th win, and outgoing President Terry Kimbrow threw out the first pitch, recognizing his retirement after 18 years as president.
Women’s Golf
• Clifton, Tenn., April 8 — Entering the final round in sixth place, CBC looked to make a move in the last round of the Lions Spring Classic at Ross Creek Landing. CBC combined to shoot 370 in the second round, bringing their total to 775 and maintaining sixth place. Individually, Abby Kirby closed with an 88 for a total score of 175. Laney Crutchfield shot an 86 for a total score of 180, while Thaylia Ramirez posted a 94 for a total of 199 and Daniela Alastre finished with a 102 for a total of 221.
Men’s Golf
• Clifton, Tenn., April 8 — Starting the day 32 shots off the lead, CBC played the final 18 holes at the Lions Spring Classic at Ross Creek Landing. CBC improved by seven shots on the day, finishing with a score of 322 for a total of 651 and placing 10th overall. Individually, Jakub Slapal matched his first-round score with a 76, finishing with a total of 152. Cooper Hermann recorded a final round of 80, bringing his total to 159. Preston Nestorenko closed with a 79 for a total of 165, while Jack Higginbotham finished with an 87 for a total of 175 and Gustavo Bello shot an 89 for a total of 179.
