CBC SPORTS: February 1, 2023
Men’s Basketball
• St. Louis, Mo., Jan. 26 — Playing their first game on the road since Jan. 5, CBC took on the Spartans of Missouri Baptist University (MBU) in a critical American Midwest Conference (AMC) matchup inside the Petty Student Resources Center. CBC (15-7, 7-3 AMC) trailed at halftime, but outscored MBU (12-11, 8-3 AMC) 38-26 in the second half to win 71-61 and avenge their home loss to the Spartans earlier this season.
• Columbia, Mo., Jan. 28 — Looking for a season sweep, CBC took on the Cougars of Columbia College (CC) in an AMC matchup inside the Arena of Southwell Complex. CBC (15-8, 7-4 AMC) trailed at halftime and never led in the second half, falling to CC (17-6, 9-2 AMC) 71-61.
Women’s Basketball
• St. Louis, Mo., Jan. 26 — Heading to the road for the first time in three weeks, CBC took on the Spartans of MBU in an AMC contest at the Petty Student Resources Center. CBC (8-10, 3-10 AMC) trailed 40-20 at halftime and dropped the contest 93-51 to MBU (16-3, 12-1 AMC).
• Columbia, Mo., Jan. 28 — Traveling across the state to end their AMC road trip, CBC took on the Cougars of Columbia College. CBC (8-11, 3-11 AMC) trailed 43-27 at halftime, and lost to CC (17-4, 12-0 AMC) 85-54.
Track & Field
• Elsah, Ill., Jan. 27 — Competing for the second straight weekend, CBC competed on the first day of the 2023 Principia Relays. The Mustangs had four athletes compete in five events on the day. Ally Swaim qualified for the 60-meter hurdles finals with the fastest time in the semifinals at 9.25. Josh Brown qualified for the men’s 60-meter hurdle finals as well, with a time of 8.99, the fourth fastest time while running a 7.71 in the 60-meter dash final. Ashleigh Gross-Mitchell ran an 8.74 in the 60-meter dash final on the women’s side and jumped 4.33 meters in the long jump. Jadon Price jumped 5.22 meters in the men’s long jump.
• Elsah, Ill., Jan. 28 — CBC athletes Ally Swaim and Josh Brown competed in the 60-meter hurdles finals at the Principia Relays, both athletes qualified in the semifinals. Swaim won for the second straight week, posting a time of 9.34 seconds in the final to win by one-tenth of a second. Brown finished fifth in the men’s race, posting a time of 9.07.
Wrestling
• Batesville, Jan. 28 — Returning to the mat in the state for the second consecutive Saturday, CBC was at the AMC/Sooner Athletic Conference Duals hosted by Lyon College. CBC went 1-3 on the afternoon with a win over Jarvis Christian in their second match. Individually, CBC had an outstanding day, earning at least two wins in each dual.
