CBC SPORTS: Lawrence Earnes Defensive Player of the Week
Volleyball
• Conway, Nov. 2 — Returning home after three straight games on the road, CBC hosted the Pioneers of Crowley’s Ridge College (CRC) inside A.R. Fieldhouse, looking to avenge an earlier loss to CRC. CBC (13-11) got the job done, downing CRC (9-14) in four sets on a historic night. Mikayla Lawrence, who entered the match 22 digs shy of 1,500 for her career, reached that milestone in the third set and finished with 31 digs on the night for CBC. Madeline Freeman also notched another triple-double, the eighth of her career, as she led the team in kills with 14, and added 19 assists and 20 digs for good measure.
• Conway, Nov. 3 — Playing their penultimate home match of the 2023 season, CBC hosted American Midwest Conference (AMC) rival and #9 team in the nation, the Spartans of Missouri Baptist (MBU) at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (13-12, 3-5 AMC) only scored 26 points on the night, falling in straight sets to #9 MBU (23-5, 9-0 AMC). Caitlyn Miller led the way in kills with 6, while Madeline Freeman paced the team in assists with 7 and Mikayla Lawrence led with 8 digs. Attacking was the story of the night, as MBU had 39 kills and hit .397 while the Mustangs had only 15 kills and hit -.111.
• Conway, Nov. 4 — CBC hosted the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets (HSSU) on Senior Day at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (14-12, 4-5 AMC) clinched the #6 seed in next week’s AMC Tournament with a four-set victory over HSSU (12-13, 4-5 AMC). Mallory Gossett, Mikayla Lawrence and Molly Murphy were all honored prior to the match.
• St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 6 — For the second consecutive week and the third time this season, CBC defensive specialist Mikayla Lawrence has earned AMC Defensive Player of the Week. Lawrence was also the player of the week in week 3 and week 12. Lawrence, a senior from Beebe, passed 1,500 digs against Crowley’s Ridge on Nov. 2. She finished this week with 76 digs and 6.82 digs per set, including 36 digs and 9 digs per set in a win over Harris-Stowe on Saturday to clinch a winning record for the first time since 2007 and the #6 seed in the AMC Tournament.
Women’s Basketball
• Conway, Nov. 2 — Opening their 2023-24 season at home, CBC hosted the Tigers of Champion Christian College (CCC) inside A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (0-1) couldn’t slow down a potent CCC (3-0) offensive attack, trailing 44-24 at halftime before falling 91-62. Caroline Citty had 17 points to lead the Mustangs while Kristan Hargrove had a career night, posting a career-high 15 points, including 9-10 at the free throw line. Taryanna McNary grabbed 11 rebounds in her Mustang debut, but it wasn’t enough, as CBC got outrebounded 49-39 and out shot 40-32% from the field.
Women’s Soccer
• St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 3 — The AMC announced their selections for women’s soccer all-conference and CBC was well represented. Six players, a record for CBC, were selected to the all-conference teams: Bailey Walerczyk, Amanda Parreiras, Kitanna Richards and Vitoria Loiola all earned first-team all-conference honors, while Bayleigh Williams and Annesta Richards were named to the honorable mention team.
• St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 3 — Playing in the AMC tournament quarterfinals for the fourth consecutive season, the fifth seeded CBC took on the fourth seeded Spartans of MBU at Spartan Field. CBC (5-10-3) saw their season come to a disappointing end, allowing 3 goals in the first half and 5 in the second half to fall 8-0 to MBU (6-10-1). Bailey Walerczyk made 4 saves in goal.
Cross Country
• Nevada, Mo., Nov. 3 — Competing for the final time in the 2023 season, CBC was on course at the Frank Peters Golf Course for the AMC Championship. Josh Brown competed in the 8K event for the men, while the women’s team finished in 7th in their first ever 6K event.
Men’s Soccer
• Fulton, Mo., Nov. 4 — CBC took on the Owls of William Woods (WWU) in the AMC Quarterfinals at Firley Field in Fulton, Mo. CBC (5-9-5) allowed three first half goals and saw their season end 4-1 at the hands of WWU (10-5-4).
• St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 6 — The AMC announced the 2023 men’s soccer all conference teams. Jasper Gadellaa and Daniel Pinkney were both selected to the first team. Hugh McAuley and Joe McElhinney both got honorable mention honors.
Men’s Basketball
• Siloam Springs, Nov. 4 — CBC looked to start 3-0 on the season as they took on John Brown at Bill George Arena. CBC (2-1) led 47-35 at halftime but was outscored 45-27 in the second half to fall 81-74 to JBU (2-0).
