CBC SPORTS: Softball and Baseball Waiting for At Large Bid

Men’s Golf

• Jefferson City, Mo., April 30 — Entering the final round in second place, CBC looked to make history at the American Midwest Conference (AMC) championship at the Jefferson City Country Club. CBC shot a final round 287, the low round of the day, to secure second place with an 889, 32 strokes behind the winners, Columbia. Individually, Leopold Maes, who earned AMC Honorable Mention honors, shot the lowest round of the day, closing with a 68 to finish at 216 overall, one shot behind the winner in a tie for second. Jakub Slapal, who was an AMC second team selection, finished with a 71 to shoot a 223 for the tournament, tied for eighth with teammate Emmanuel LaBeur, who was also an honorable mention selection. Kitsakon Jairak, who also earned second team recognition, shot a final round 74 to finish with a 228, and Paul Gomez shot a final round 81 for a 236. Preston Nestorenko, who was the Champion of Character, finished with a total of 234 as an individual, and Suraprat Pareepart finished with a total of 237, also as an individual.

Baseball

• O’Fallon, Mo., April 30 — Opening play in the AMC tournament, CBC played the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans (HLGU) to open things at CarShield Field, then faced the Cougars of Columbia College later in the day. CBC (36-13) beat HLGU 10-3 and, beat Columbia (36-13) 6-1 to send themselves to the semifinals.

• O’Fallon, Mo., May 1 — Having won twice the previous day, CBC reached the semifinals of the AMC tournament in the winner’s bracket against Missouri Baptist (MBU). CBC (36-14) dropped into the loser’s bracket after falling 4-3 to MBU (38-9-1).

• O’Fallon, Mo., May 2 — Looking to keep their season alive in the semifinals of the AMC tournament, CBC took on the Eagles of Williams Baptist University (WBU). CBC (38-14) eliminated WBU (31-19) 11-3 to move into the championship series against Missouri Baptist (38-10-1) where they stunned the Spartans, coming back twice to win 11-7 and force a winner-take-all final the next day.

• O’Fallon, Mo., May 3 — CBC took on the Missouri Baptist (MBU) Spartans for the lone automatic bid to the NAIA Opening Round from the AMC. CBC (38-15) scored early, but couldn’t keep up with the MBU (39-10-1) offense, dropping the title game 10-1. The Mustangs will find out if they will continue on in the postseason on May 9, when the NAIA reveals the selections for the Opening Round at 4 p.m. on their YouTube channel.

Softball

• Columbia, Mo., April 30 — Opening play in the AMC tournament, CBC took on the Stephens Stars at the Antimi Softball Complex. CBC (31-20) took care of Stephens (16-29) 5-1 to advance into the winner’s bracket.

• Columbia, Mo., May 1 — CBC took on the Owls of William Woods at the Antimi Softball Complex. CBC (32-20) got revenge on WWU (20-26) by beating the Owls in walk off fashion 1-0 to move into the semifinals!

• Columbia, Mo., May 2 — Looking to make their third trip to the AMC tournament championship since 2018, CBC took on the Comets of Cottey College (CC) at the Antimi Softball Complex. CBC (32-21) got an early lead but couldn’t hang onto it, falling 5-4 to CC (30-19) to drop into the elimination bracket at the tournament.

• Columbia, Mo., May 3 — Needing a win to keep their AMC tournament hopes alive, CBC took on the Eagles of Williams Baptist (WBU) at Battle High School in an elimination game. CBC (32-22) had a 3-2 lead in the third, but surrendered three in the fourth to lose to WBU (38-16) 5-3 and get eliminated from the AMC Tournament with a third-place finish. The Mustangs will have to wait until May 7 to find out if their resume is good enough to be selected to the NAIA Opening Round. The selection show will air at 4 p.m. on the NAIA’s YouTube channel.

Track

• St. Louis, Mo., May 2 — Competing on the final day of the AMC championship meet, CBC sent five competitors to the final day of the competition. Josh Brown won the 110-meter hurdles title for the second straight year, posting a time of 15.66. He also finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.46. Evan East competed in the 200-meter semifinals on Wednesday and posted a time of 23.37 before competing in the 400-meter final on Thursday posting a time of 53.04, good for eighth place. Mackenzie Milligan ran the 1500-meters in a time of 6:39.62. Bay Davis also competed in the 1500, posting a time of 7:14.22 and ran the 800 meters in a time of 3:16.72. Lindsey Risner ran the 100-and 200-meter semis on Wednesday, posting times of 16.58 and 34.13.
