CBC SPORTS UPDATE: March 9, 2022
Baseball
• North Little Rock, March 4 — Playing for the second time this week, CBC opened a four-game set with the Wildcats of Culver-Stockton College (CSC) at Burns Park. CBC (5-8) couldn’t muster enough offense and the defense let them down, losing twice to CSC (4-4) by scores of 9-3 and 9-4.
Softball
• Gulf Shores, Ala., March 4 — Playing for the first time since the Feb. 19, CBC returned to the field for day one of the Gulf Coast Invitational. CBC (6-8) dropped both contests on the day, falling to William Carey (14-2) 4-1 in the first game and 14-7 to Brenau (5-5) in the second.
• Gulf Shores, Ala., March 5 — Having lost the first two games of the Gulf Coast Invitational, CBC was able to salvage a split on the second day of games. CBC (7-9) defeated Xavier of Louisiana 9-3 in the first game before falling to Our Lady of the Lake 12-4 in six innings in the second game.
• St. Louis, Mo., March 7 — For the second time this season, a CBC player has earned AMC Player of the Week. Lauren Anderson earned player of the week honors after her performance at the Gulf Coast Invitational. Anderson batted .416 with a home run and five RBIs in a 1-3 weekend for the Mustangs in Gulf Shores, Ala. She launched her first home run of the season in a losing effort against William Carey in the opener on Friday and had at least one hit and one RBI in three of the four games. With her performance this weekend, she is now batting .429 on the season.
Wrestling
• Park City, Mo., March 4 — For the second straight season, CBC had a wrestler that was selected to be in the NAIA Wrestling National Championship. Christian Richer, who competed in the 157-pound weight class, was selected. Richer had the toughest draw in the class, wrestling the top two ranked wrestlers in the division. He held his own for 4:01 before falling to the top-ranked wrestler in the NAIA in the first round and then saw his season end against the #2 ranked wrestler by fall in 1:19 in the second round.
All-Conference Honors
• St. Louis, Mo., March 7 — During last week’s AMC basketball tournaments, the AMC announced the 2021-22 All-Academic Teams for men’s and women’s basketball. Eight CBC Mustangs were selected for the All-Conference teams. To be an Academic All-Conference selection, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be in their second semester at CBC. The honorees are:
Riley Bridges, Manuela Cruz, Macey Decker, Diana Rivera and Lydia York for Women’s Basketball. Blake Bradshaw, Bryan Maxey and Hayden Peterson for Men’s Basketball.
