CBC SPORTS: Women's Volleyball Sweeps HLGU

Men’s Soccer

         • St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 15 — Playing on the road for the second straight Tuesday, CBC was on the pitch at Spartan Field for an American Midwest Conference (AMC) match with the Missouri Baptist (MBU) Spartans. CBC (4-9, 1-2 AMC) mustered three shots toward MBU’s (8-5, 3-0 AMC) net and allowed one first-half and two second-half goals en route to a 3-0 defeat. Jafar Chehade started in goal and made four saves. Missouri Baptist scored in the 18th, 58th and 68th minutes to provide the margin.

         • Hannibal, Mo., Oct. 19 — Playing an AMC road match for the third time this season, CBC took on the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange at Blackwell Field. CBC (4-10, 1-3 AMC) couldn’t find the offense as the Trojans (6-5-2, 3-2 AMC) scored twice in both halves to hand the Mustangs a 4-0 loss. Jafar Chehade made his third straight start in net and made seven saves.

Women’s Soccer

         • St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 15 — Playing with only eight players, CBC took on the Spartans of Missouri Baptist at Spartan Field in an AMC clash. CBC (0-7-1, 0-4 AMC) allowed three in the first half and six in the second half to lose 9-0 to MBU (5-7, 3-0 AMC). Josie Gelsthorpe started in goal and made 17 stops in net.

Women’s Golf

         • Henderson, Tenn., Oct. 15 — Teeing off on their final fall round, CBC was on the Chickasaw Golf Course at the Freed-Hardeman Fall Invitational. Abby Kirby closed with an 89 to finish at 176, while Laney Crutchfield finished with the low round of the day for the Mustangs, closing with an 83 to finish with a 173 overall. Thaylia Ramirez shot a 102 to close with a 196.

Volleyball

         • Conway, Oct. 18 — Returning to AMC play for the first time in a couple weeks, CBC hosted the Spartans of Missouri Baptist University (MBU) at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (5-8, 3-2 AMC) dropped the match in straight sets to MBU (15-9, 6-0 AMC) by scores of 13-25, 14-25 and 9-25. Madeline Freeman led the way in kills with seven, while Brooke Schmitz had nine assists and Kailee Walker made 10 digs. The Mustangs had 19 kills and hit .000, while MBU had 46 kills and hit .324 with five aces compared to just one for the Mustangs. Freeman also, with her kills, moved into fifth place on the all-time kills list.

         • Conway, Oct. 19 — Playing for the second time in under 24 hours, CBC hosted the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange University (HLGU) in A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (6-8, 4-2 AMC) swept HLGU (6-24, 3-3 AMC) for the second straight season by scores of 25-23, 25-19 and 25-18. Madeline Freeman led the way with 10 of CBC’s 42 kills, while Xiangliesse Velazquez hit .615 en route to a .244 hitting percentage for the Mustangs. Freeman and Brooke Schmitz tied for the lead in assists with 16, and Schmitz and Sheridan Rogers were the co-leaders in digs with 13 each. CBC also had nine total blocks (three solo and 12 assisted) as Faith Stone and Velazquez combined for nine of the 12 assisted blocks on the day, compared to just one block for HLGU.
