Celebration 2024: A Time of Music, Worship and Encouragement
By Jeff Herring, Executive Editor
Allan and I were delighted to represent the Trumpet by attending the Celebration 2024 conference in November, an event filled with uplifting worship, dynamic preaching, a Branson show, exciting giveaways and warm fellowship. The opening session on Tuesday evening featured a concert by The Petersens, an American roots music band known for bringing the sounds of the Ozarks to the world. Performing full-time in Branson, Mo., at the Little Opry Theater in the Branson IMAX Entertainment Complex, The Petersens set a joyful and inspiring tone for the conference.
Doug Brewer, pastor of Southgate Baptist Church in Moore, Okla., served as the keynote speaker. His genuine love for the Lord was evident as he shared powerful truths from God’s Word and stories that reminded us how we can all play a meaningful role in someone else’s journey. Throughout his sessions, he emphasized the importance of Christians making a difference in today’s culture, drawing on the example of Barnabas, the encourager. He reminded us that at different points in our lives, we may need to find a “Barnabas,” be a “Barnabas” or allow a “Barnabas” to find us.
Worship this year was led by David Attebery and Neal Dumas, whose chemistry stems from their shared experiences in Donny Parrish’s youth group at First Baptist Church in Springhill, La. Their connection with the audience was evident, and they even honored a special request by performing a song many remembered from camp — “Born in the BMA.” The spirit of worship and camaraderie permeated every session.
On Wednesday morning, the Central Baptist College choir opened the session with a powerful performance, showcasing their incredible talent and dedication. Conference attendees also enjoyed a visit to The Six Show, where six real brothers used only their voices to create an “orchestra of sound,” entertaining the crowd with their unique musical style.
Most national BMA departments and two BMA of Arkansas departments, the Baptist Trumpet and Central Baptist College, were represented at the conference as vendors. They offered giveaways, shared information, and presented door prizes. Donny Parrish, Lifeword Executive Director and BMA of America Conference Director, expressed his appreciation for the event, saying, “All the departments of the BMA love our senior adults, and they are such a vital part of who we are and what we do. It’s an honor to join forces and give them this time of celebration every year.”
During the conference, a special offering was taken to support Lifeword Middle East Coordinator Joe Costa and his ministry in the Middle East. Attendees generously contributed $11,000 to cover the cost of completing his Lifeword Studio, a testament to the ongoing commitment to the BMA’s global ministry efforts.
Looking ahead, Celebration 2025 is scheduled for Nov. 18-20, 2025, at the Chateau on the Lake Hotel and Resort in Branson, Mo. We eagerly anticipate another year filled with worship, fellowship and encouragement.
