Former BMA Missionary Dies

      Louis “Lou” Elmer Shults, 87 of Pea Ridge, passed away Oct. 5. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church in Garfield. In the 1970s, Bro. Shults served as a BMA missionary, translating and printing literature for BMA churches in Brazil. He also served as a deacon in several churches.

      He was a product manager for Hy-Line Poultry Farm in Brazil and a salesman for Ralston Purina and Cargill -Nutrena Feed Division. He also contributed to his community by serving as a first responder in Pea Ridge and Benton County as a Deputy Coroner.

      Survivors include: his wife of almost 68 years, Mary Sue Hoffman Shults; two sons, BMA Pastor Ronald “Ron” (Kay) Shults of Pea Ridge (pastor of New Prospect, Garfield) and BMA Pastor Glen (Leslie) Shults of Beebe (pastor of Garner, Garner); a daughter, Sherrie (Jamie) George of Bentonville; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

      A celebration of his life was held on Oct. 12 at New Prospect under the direction of Benton County Funeral Home (bentoncountyfuneralhome.com), with his two sons officiating.
