Growing in the Word
By Danny Paul, Pastor • Grace Baptist Church, Russellville
We will host a Bible study workshop on Saturday, Feb. 22, with BMA Theological Seminary President Dr. Philip Attebery. This workshop will benefit pastors, staff members, Sunday School teachers, small group leaders and members. We would love for you to join us for this event! We will have a morning session starting at 10:30, lunch provided by the church, then an afternoon session. We do ask that you RSVP so that we can know how many will be coming with you. You can email Danny@gracersvl.org with any questions and to sign up for this event!
The consumption of healthy food is essential for our growth and strength! At first glance, this statement might make you think of avoiding processed food, low-carb diets or the need to eat broccoli instead of candy bars. But in Scripture, food is used to illustrate growth in our faith! The Apostle Peter says, “Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation” (I Peter 2:2 ESV). It is right that there is a time and a place in our lives for milk. The Scripture also teaches us that it is problematic if we never grow past the drinking milk stage. The writer of Hebrews says, “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil” (Heb. 5:12–14).
In these verses, a comparison is made between immaturity and maturity. The difference that brings discernment is training! As we grow in faith, we grow in skill concerning the Word of righteousness. Because our churches need training to be skilled in the Word of righteousness, Grace Baptist Church in Russellville invites you to our upcoming training.
