JUST THINKING: A Variety of Thoughts
I was just thinking about a variety of things at this time of the year.
Our BMA of Arkansas President
This past week, Michael Battenfield had a deer stand accident, falling 10 feet and shattering his heel. He has received emergency room care and awaits an appointment with an orthopedic specialist. He cannot put any weight on the injured foot and is in a splint. There is also a concern about circulation in the foot and ankle.
Will you please pray for our president of the BMA of Arkansas and for the church he pastors (First Baptist Church in Cave Springs)?
The Rise in Crime in Arkansas
It’s the holiday season and people are on the highways, in the stores and visiting with families. It should be a time of peace and joy. Instead, people are faced with criminal activity of every sort — robberies, assaults, drug influences and, sadly, homicides are so prevalent.
There are so many blaming political, religious and social influences. Those are only topical excuses. The real problem is sin. The hearts of mankind are turned toward evil and, according to God’s Word, these will only get worse.
Will you pray for our cities, our state, and our nation? The words of the Lord said centuries ago ring true today: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (I Chron. 7:14.)
Our Churches at Christmastime
As I’ve conversed with pastors across the state, I find many discouraged. The pandemic took a toll on church attendance and giving in such a drastic manner. While COVID, pneumonia and the flu are still affecting our society, the concern many pastors have expressed is a reality by many choosing not to return to in-person church attendance. As a result, the fellowship in a number of churches is faltering.
Would you pray for the Lord’s people? Pray that, as the focus is on the birth of the Savior, a return to worship would be most evident. Would you also ask that the Holy Spirit direct church members to encourage their pastors and staff?
Well, these are just a few of the variety of thoughts I was just thinking.
