La. Tech ABS/Ruston Church Plant Update

By Jason Goodwin, ABS Director/Church Planter • La. Tech

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I pray that you and your churches are doing well this new year and that God’s grace and mercy sustain you daily. The Winter Quarter has ended, with classes finishing on Feb. 27. The weather has been cold (mostly), and the students have been experiencing some of the normal winter struggles, but God has been good to us.

         • ABS Update — Our numbers have been down slightly, but last week’s Impact saw a return to a more typical attendance. I started a new Men’s Study on Thursday night, going through Disciplines of a Godly Man. We have about 10-12 young men who are joining us each week, and I am praying that this study will be of great benefit to them now and in the future. We need godly men in our churches who love Jesus, love their families and seek to serve Him faithfully. This is one of my main goals as ABS Director — to equip, train and disciple young men to be leaders in their homes, churches and communities for the rest of their lives. Please pray that God grants this prayer and helps me to disciple these men well.

         • Special Prayer Request — I also want to mention a very important prayer request. Mrs. Karan Eddy has been diagnosed with a type of bone marrow cancer called MDS. She has begun treatment but greatly covets our prayers for her full recovery and healing. Please join her ABS family in praying for her and Bro. Danny as they go through this process once again. Mrs. Karan updates her Facebook page regularly with her prayer needs, so please follow her for more information and specific prayer requests.

Finally, pray for our efforts to share Christ on the campus of Louisiana Tech. On Feb. 12, we held a campus outreach event. I know this event has already come and gone, but you can still be in prayer for the fruit that comes from our engagements and interactions with students. I also ask that you pray weekly in your churches for our ability to share Christ, engage nonbelievers and help equip young people to make sharing the Gospel a natural part of their conversations.

         • CrossCon Conference — CrossCon was incredible, with 15,000 college students, challenging messages and clear opportunities to serve Christ in hard places were just what we needed. Of course, no conference/mission/church trip is really complete without a tire blowout, and we had one of those on the way home! Pray that the seeds sown during this conference will be watered and nurtured well!

         • Ruston Church Plant — We have begun meeting each Sunday afternoon/evening with a small group at the ABS to discuss what a church is and how we are to operate as one. These meetings aim to establish a core group of people committed to establishing and planting a BMA church here in Ruston, La. We have four families, one individual, and some of our ABS students who have been consistent in joining us each week. Please pray for these weekly meetings and God’s blessing upon our work here. I am optimistic that those joining us will stay with us, but plans come and go, as well as our intentions. I want us all to be on the same page about the work we are doing so that we can be unified in heart and mind. Thank you for your continued support in both works. My family and I could not do this work without your prayers and financial support. May God bless you and the churches of this association.
