"Legacy of Faith" Scholarship Gala Raises Over $ 770,000.00
Central Baptist College hosted its sixth annual Scholarship Gala on Feb. 28. The black-tie optional event featured Houston Nutt as the keynote speaker. It was held at Antioch Baptist Church in Conway.
The theme of the event was “Legacy of Faith,” and the program focused on the mission and ministry of Central Baptist College, which is “the integration of Christian faith and academic excellence in a Christ-centered environment.”
The emcee for the evening was JR Runyon, a local radio personality and market manager for East Arkansas Broadcasters in Conway, as well as a disc jockey for JACK 92.7 FM. CBC Executive Vice President Dr. Jeremy Langley delivered the opening prayer.
CBC Dining Services, led by Chef Billie Rodriguez, provided a delicious meal that began with seasonal fruit and feta on a bed of greens with balsamic drizzle, followed by a medallion of beef with au jus, seared broccolini in lemon garlic reduction and steakhouse mashed potatoes, concluding with a chocolate torte topped with creamy mousse and a drizzle of ganache for dessert.
Houston Nutt shared his personal story of growing up and pursuing a career in professional football before injuries changed his plans. Soon, he was offered a position working with college freshmen, and he felt drawn to the role. “I knew I was meant to be a difference maker,” he said. “There are a lot of difference makers here tonight.” Laughter filled the room as he inspired and encouraged the attendees, reminding them of the impact their contributions would have.
The Central Baptist College Fine Arts Department provided the entertainment. Fine Arts Department Chair and Director of Instrumental Music Donna Bradley led the CBC Band as they performed Great Is Thy Faithfulness by Charles Booker and Choose Joy by Randall Standridge. Assistant Professor of Music and Choir Director Jim Turner led the CBC Chamber Choir as they sang Ephesians Samba by Craig Curryand Legacy of Faith by Jim Turner and the CBC Theory 4 Class of 1979.
CBC President Terry Kimbrow announced that $772,650 had been raised through event sponsorships and private donations to benefit student scholarships. President Kimbrow acknowledged 58 event sponsors and many additional individuals and businesses who contributed. “I am beyond grateful for the generosity of so many,” said President Kimbrow. “The Central Baptist College Board of Trustees, local businesses, not only in Conway but across the state of Arkansas, and other individuals who are such faithful supporters of Central Baptist College all came together to make this an unforgettable night for the support of Christian higher education.”
