Living in the Secret Place

Living in the Secret Place

“The one who lives under the protection of the Most High dwells in the shadow of the Almighty” (Psa. 91:1 CSB).

What a grand statement of life on the highest plane. It has been translated several ways all with the profound meaning of life at its best. It could be translated in this way: “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (ASV). Or it could be translated this way: “One who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will lodge in the shadow of the Almighty” (NASB). Moses, the man of God wrote this Psalm. Some think Psalms 90 and 91 are linked together as one Psalm. The readings in both Psalms 90 and 91 show the extraordinary life the Lord provides His followers.

Did Moses have a “secret place, a place of protection?” Did Moses have a place to dwell in the sheltering shadow of the Most High? Yes, oh yes, he did! The story is in Exo. 33:7-11 regarding the secret place of Moses. He had a tent placed outside the camp of the Hebrews, and he would go there to pray. In that tent, the Lord spoke to him. His administrative assistant, Joshua would not allow anyone to interrupt Moses while he was in the shelter of the Most High.

Remember as a child you had your “secret hideouts?” No one knew of “your place” except you. It is true that those who spend time alone with God in their personal secret place do dwell in the shadow of the Almighty. Where is your hideout where you go and go alone to be with Him? Where is your place of daily communion with God? On busy and exasperating days, those who experience His protection in their secret place feel with assurance the shadow of the Almighty hovering over, under, around and through their lives.
