MISSIONARY PROFILE: Mickeal Quillman
Name: Mickeal Quillman
Address: PO Box 19309, Jonesboro, Ark. 72403
Email: pastorquill@gmail.com
Mission field I’ll be serving in: We will be working in the southern province of Zambia in the villages surrounding Livingstone. Right now we are in four villages — Mbangweta, Delavu, Kooma and Chilimbana — ministering to the Tonga, Lozi and Toka Leya people.
Primarily, my ministry will include training and equipping local men to become leaders and pastors to their own people. Our goal is to create a sustainable and reproducible ministry where the locals can begin planting, training and equipping others in surrounding villages.
My wife’s maiden name is Sharon Fair.
My favorite worship song/hymn is “I’ll Fly Away”
My favorite subject in school was history
The best advice I ever received was from my dad, Mike Quillman, who told me, “Your friends won’t need an explanation for your actions, and your enemies wouldn’t listen anyway. So just follow the leading of the Holy Spirit and serve God.”
Guests at my “fantasy dinner” would be Jesus, my dad, James (the brother of Jesus), Caleb, Ronald Reagan and John Wayne.
My favorite book (other than the Bible) is The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
My hobbies are reading, studying history, watching documentaries, gun collecting and hunting.
I would love to visit Ireland.
My “pet peeve” is lying.
My most embarrassing moment was when I was a first grader. My school had an “underoos” day. (These are the superhero underwear and T-shirt combo.) We were supposed to wear them to school. Unfortunately, my mom was wrong on the day of this event by one week. So I lived some people’s nightmare of showing up to school in my underwear. This was before cell phones, so I spent the entire day wearing my Hulk underoos.
The Bible character I most identify with is Caleb because I prayed for many years for God to open the door to be an international missionary. I knew God had spoken to me many years earlier and placed this call on my life; 20 years later, He fulfilled that promise to me.
The best thing about my ministry is watching the Zambian people experience the love of Christ for the first time and then develop a hunger for His Word.
The worst thing about my ministry is seeing the hold the witch doctors have over so many of the older people within the villages and the fear they use to perpetuate their false beliefs.
The greatest need in this ministry is prayer for God to change the hearts of the village witch doctors and save them or remove them.
Something most people don’t know about me is I don’t like chocolate.
I want my children to remember to keep their faith and trust in God because He will always be faithful to us.
I’d give anything to have met the Apostle Paul.
I have always wanted to go skydiving.
I’d like for my epitaph to read he’s not here.
Other comments: My wife and I are currently on deputation. We have a few dates left in May, June and July to visit churches and share our ministry before we leave at the end of July to live in Zambia full-time.
