Ruby Poteet Passes Away
Ruby Poteet, 80 of Pine Bluff, passed away March 16. She was a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church and was, for many years, very active in GMA and WMA on the national, state and local levels, including serving as Arkansas State GMA director. She was also a music enthusiast and loved playing the piano and organ, especially at church.
She also volunteered and served as a leader in several organizations, including: grand royal matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, grand worthy advisor of the Rainbow Girls, Christina Chapter 3 Amaranth, Highway 15 Volunteer Fire Department, Red Cross. Ruby also served as president of the Women’s Cattlemen’s Association, where she wrote articles for their magazine, and was secretary for Genealogy Club, Railroad Museum, Pine Bluff Historical Society, Quilters Guild, Master Gardens and many other organizations.
She worked at Raylees House of Music, Superior Drug Store and Simmons Bank before retiring from the Cotton Belt Credit Union in 2003.
Survivors include: her husband, Jerry Poteet, Sr.; two children, Scott Poteet (Jennifer) of Rison and Cherie Massey of Benton; three brothers, Charles Wessels of Monroe, La., Lloyd Wessels of Rogers and Bill Wessels (Cheryl) of Texas; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held March 21 in the chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Wes Woolley officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
