South Honored For 50 Years
Dr. Thom South and his wife, the former Judy Brown were honored by Eastside Baptist Church, where he serves as pastor, at a surprise “after church party” to mark his 50 years in the ministry. He surrendered to the ministry Jan. 5, 1972 and is a graduate of Central Baptist College (where he previously served as director of Online Services and currently serves as an adjunct professor), Mid-America Baptist Seminary and BMA Seminary (where he previously served as the director of the Arkansas Extension Campus and currently serves as an adjunct professor).
Before accepting the pastorate of Eastside Baptist Church 18 years ago, he pastored churches in Kansas, Alabama, Tennessee and Bethel Baptist Church in Cabot. He also served on staff at Palm Street in North Little Rock, Antioch in Conway and First at Jacksonville, Texas.
Dr. South has served the BMA in many ways through the years, including his recent service as chairman of the Publications Committee for the Baptist Trumpet.
“I am thankful the Lord has blessed us to work with many wonderful people over the years,” said Mrs. South.
“I have facetiously said that it would be fun to pastor if it wasn’t for the people,” said Dr. South. “The truth is, it is the people you have helped and the friends you have made along the way that is the best part of ministry. Thank you to all those who have helped me and befriended me over the past 50 years. You have made this life golden!”
The Souths’ address is 3614 Irby Dr., Conway, Ark. 72034.
