SPOTLIGHT ON MISSIONS: Candra Barnett • Romania

         • A New Church Plant — If you don't have time to read this whole update, please read this one paragraph. I want to start with a big prayer request needed for the current day. Will you pray for the village of Tarian? Tarian is about a 10-minute drive from where we live now and is where we would like to plant our next church. I am planning English lessons for a conversation club beginning in February. We will have two clubs — one for kids and one for teens and adults. Through this, we are praying to meet members of the community and eventually start a Bible study. Will you pray for this effort?

         • Church Camp — We hosted a church camp in September that looked slightly different from past years — we tent-camped! We took 10 teenagers camping, none of whom had ever been camping before. It was a great experience for them and us and a wonderful laid-back time to build relationships and learn more about being “Radical like Jesus" as we began teaching from Greg Stier's book of the same name.

         • Church Planting Training — In October, we refreshed ourselves on our church planting training and then took our friends the Porumbs on a retreat to learn this material. Marius and his wife Adina are replanting a small church in the village of Tetchea. Will you pray for them as they seek to grow this small body of believers and reach out to unbelievers in their community?

         • Thanksgiving — In November, we were blessed to celebrate Thanksgiving twice. First, when our good missionary friends, the Quillmans, came to visit, I was able to host an early Thanksgiving for them and the Porumb family. This was especially special because the Quilmans struggle to find ingredients in Zambia to make Thanksgiving food, and therefore hadn't celebrated traditional American Thanksgiving in several years.

      On Thanksgiving day, we were blessed to celebrate with our normal tradition of inviting over nonbelieving and believing friends to a big meal together. Please pray for Annette and her boyfriend Norbi (seated between Pam and I above). They are dear friends who do not believe in Jesus yet. We also celebrated with the Luncan family, who have become very dear to us this past year!

      We have not stopped ministering in Santandrei with the gypsy community! In fact, in the fall, we were able to connect the community there to a gypsy pastor from a neighboring village. He plans to come back in the spring and begin evangelistic meetings. We were also able to give every kid in the community a warm coat and pair of winter shoes for Christmas. Please continue to pray for these people, and especially that they would receive the gospel!

      "Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him" (James 1:12).

      Please join our team in praying for the following:

      • For steadfastness and perseverance in our ministry,

      • For me, as I prepare English club lessons (I will be teaching solo until the Risners come back from Furlough.),

      • For many kids, teens, and adults to come to the English club,

      • My neighbor, Monica, whose husband committed suicide and is a nonbeliever, and continued opportunities to share with her,

      • For the teenagers we are blessed to pour into each Friday night to grow in more than just Mario Kart skills, and

      • That God will bless the Return Church plant (Brasov), our gypsy ministry (Santandrei) and Agape Church (Oradea).

      We also praise God for the following:

      • He showed us where He would have us to plant next;

      • Church camp was such a blessing to us, and we are excited to continue these relationships every Friday night;

      • Our dear friends the Quillmans, Porumbs and Luncans;

      • The chance to train Marius and Adina in church planting;

      • The gypsy pastor, Gaspar, who is willing to help us continue the work in Santandrei;

      • The donations that make church camp, coats and shoes, Bible study curriculum, and just our everyday lives possible. Thank you for giving to my ministry!

      Thank you for reading and praying. If you want to learn more, you can do so at my blog — candrainromania.wordpress.com. If the Lord leads you to give to this ministry, you can do so at candrainromania.wordpress.com/become-a-partner. God Bless!
