SPOTLIGHT ON MISSIONS: Joshua & Meagan Phiri • Zambia

After five years of prayer, persistence and God’s provision, the vision of owning land and building a home in Zambia is finally becoming a reality. Why is this so important? Living 45 minutes to an hour away from the villages we serve has made ministry challenging in many ways:

      • Time — Being far away restricts our ability to respond quickly to needs and limits discipleship opportunities.

      • Cost — Constant driving adds significant transportation expenses to our personal budget.

      • Effectiveness — Proximity will allow for deeper, more consistent discipleship.

      • Necessity — Villages don’t have houses to rent, making land and building a home essential.

      • Family — Living closer means spending more time with family while balancing ministry demands.

The Vision for the Land

From the very beginning, our plans for this land have been clear:

         • Training Center — A place to train leaders and pastors for our village churches.

         • Ministry House — Accommodations for visiting teams and interns.

         • Kids’ Camps — A dedicated area to host camps and events for children.

         • Our Home — A permanent residence to support our family and ministry efforts.

How Did We Get Here?

Zambia’s approach to traditional land acquisition emphasizes respect and community involvement. We sought permission from the village headman, elders and community members by sharing our vision and building relationships of trust. This process was stalled about three years ago, and we thought the door was closed. But God miraculously intervened, and we now own land!

Through your generosity, God has already provided funding to pay off the land, drill two wells, purchase water tanks and pumps, install solar panels to power one of the wells and complete the home’s foundation and raising the walls up to the rim beam.

The Urgent Need

With the rainy season just weeks away, we urgently need to finish the roof, rim beam, walls and install windows and doors. Here are the estimated costs:

         • Rim Beam & Walls — $600

         • Roof — $5,325

         • Windows — $3,874

         • Doors — $1,500

Additional Move-In Costs

To make the house livable, we must complete plumbing, electrical, tiling, one bathroom, solar installation, a security fence and a septic tank. Here are the estimated costs for that:

         • Plumbing — $1,950.00

         • Electrical — $2,000.00

         • Ceiling Lights — $786.00

         • Bathroom Fixtures — Bathtub ($840), Vanity Sinks ($870), Faucets ($593)

         • Septic Tank & Leach Field — $2,100

         • Security Fence — $5,273

         • Solar Power — $7,000

Future Items

We’re happy to move in without everything complete, but with a family of six, these additional items will make life easier:

         • Second bathroom fixtures (bathtub, sinks, faucets) — $2,303

         • Kitchen cabinets and countertops — $5,000

         • Interior painting — $2,000
