Student Ministry Workers Retreat 2022

This year’s Student Ministry Workers Retreat is just around the corner. On Sept. 17, student ministry workers from across the state and beyond will be meeting at Central Baptist College for our fifth annual event. The day consists of featured speakers, break-out groups, worship and connecting. This year’s featured speakers are Samuel Bierig and Dr. Jared Bumpers.

Samuel Bierig serves as vice president of Undergraduate Studies, dean of Spurgeon College and assistant professor of Biblical Studies at Spurgeon College. He also serves as an elder at Liberty Baptist Church in Liberty, Mo. He is pursuing his Ph.D. in Theology at Midwestern and holds degrees from Southern Seminary and Ouachita Baptist University. He recently released a book with Rainer Publishing entitled No Neutral Words and is the editor of Fulfill Your Student Ministry. He is also a regular contributor at ftc.co. He is married to Mallory, and they have three children with a fourth on the way.

Dr. Jared Bumpers is the director of Student Life and Events and serves as assistant professor of Preaching and Ministry at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Prior to joining the team at Midwestern, he served for over a decade as a student pastor, then as an associate pastor of preaching, at a church in southwest Missouri. He has also served as an interim pastor and spoken at numerous conferences throughout the United States. He holds a B.S. in Pastoral Ministry from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Mo.; an M.Div. from Luther Rice Seminary in Lithonia, Ga.; a Th.M. in Biblical Studies from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, Va.; and a Ph.D. in Christian Preaching from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. His doctoral research focused on the hermeneutic and homiletic of John Albert Broadus. Jared and his wife, Kimberly have four children — McCartnie, Rush, Maverick and Jett.

Our breakout groups will include a session from Dr. Bumpers focused on preaching, a session with Temple Carson and Sidney Vines about surviving as a youth pastor’s wife and a session on prayer with Heidi Sorrells. Jake McCandless, BMA of Arkansas state missionary and executive director of Stand Firm Ministries, will also be sharing in one of our breakout sessions.

This year’s goody bags will include at least four books and a handful of other fun things. Register by Aug. 15, and you will also receive a t-shirt. Throughout the day, we will be giving away a variety of door prizes.

As a part of the connection piece, we are planning a student ministry workers’ hangout on Friday night before the retreat. Information will be shared through our social media as we get closer to the retreat.

Right now, there are still $25 early bird specials available, but once those are gone, regular registration is $30 per person and will go up to $40 on Aug. 16. We do have special pricing for college and seminary students of $20 per person. If you are a student or staff member at Central Baptist College, it is only $15 per person. However, the t-shirt deadline of Aug. 15 doesn’t change. To register, visit our Facebook page, website or go directly to our event registration at SMWR2022.eventbrite.com.
