WMA: Why a Written Down Word?

By Susie Edgar

Lord, we thank you for the Bible. That inspiring Word about You and Your plan. We know that plan could not be understood unless you condensed your thoughts into written form for us.

The Word in Isaiah 55: 8 says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Thank you, Lord, for caring enough to communicate with your people in this never-changing and always-available way.

In Isaiah 55:10, the Word tells us He supplies our needs and promises that when we tell others of His unfailing love and sacrifice, it will not be in vain. We are to tell — He will make it prosper. It states that as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing wherto I sent it.” The Word helps us to see the Lord and hear His voice. It teaches us how to live and have more faith and confidence in our daily walk as we spend time in its pages. The Holy Spirit guides us to become more and more like Him.

The Word says in Psalms 11:9-11, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart that I might not sin against thee.” II Peter 1:20-21 shares how we got this Word. This process is truly amazing. “Know this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in the old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”

We have been adopted, redeemed and forgiven. What a special Lord we serve.

This song by CeCe Winans, “The Goodness of God,” speaks about our Lord, “The Word” and His goodness.

“I love You, Lord, for Your mercy never fails me. All my days, I’ve been held in Your hand, from the moment that I wake up, until I lay my head. Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God. Cause all my life, you have been faithful. And all my life, you have been so, so good. With every breath that I am able, Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God.”

I pray for a desire to trust the Lord and serve Him with all thy heart, and with all thy soul and with all thy mind” (Matt. 22:37).
