CBC SPORTS: Mustang Baseball Scores 34 Runs in Doubleheader
Baseball
• St. Louis, Mo., March 21 — CBC baseball opened a four-game series against Harris-Stowe State University (HSSU) in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) with a doubleheader at Stars Park. CBC (16-13, 13-5 AMC) split with HSSU (5-19, 3-15 AMC), winning game one 8-5 before dropping game two 4-2.
• St. Louis, Mo., March 22 — CBC took on the HSSU Hornets at Stars Park in an AMC doubleheader. CBC (18-13, 15-5 AMC) exploded offensively, scoring 34 runs in a sweep of HSSU (5-21, 3-17 AMC) by scores of 13-3 and 21-5. The Mustangs had two records broken, both in the second game. Gram Middleton made his 37th career start, surpassing Brian Moreno for the most starts all-time and Ayden Qualls was hit by a pitch four times, setting a new single-game record.
Men’s Golf
• Cabot, March 18 — Sitting within striking distance of the overall lead after 36 holes, CBC looked to capture their third tournament win of the season at their own Spring Invitational at Cypress Creek Golf Course. CBC closed with a final round 304 and finished fifth with a score of 927, 25 shots behind the winners from Mineral Area College.
Women’s Golf
• Cabot, March 18 — Sitting in fourth place after the first round of the CBC Spring Invitational, CBC looked to move up to third place in the final round at Cypress Creek. The Mustangs shot a final round 368 to finish with a 747, four shots behind the third-place team, Missouri Baptist.
Softball
• Conway, March 21 — Hosting Crowley’s Ridge (CRC) for the first time as an AMC opponent, CBC softball took on the Pioneers in their AMC opener at City of Colleges Park. CBC (13-15, 2-0 AMC) swept the doubleheader from CRC (9-9, 2-2 AMC), run-ruling the Pioneers 8-0 in game one before winning on a walk-off double 3-2 in game two.
Conway, March 22 — Looking to get back to .500 on the season, CBC softball hosted the Williams Baptist University (WBU) Eagles in an AMC doubleheader at City of Colleges Park. CBC (15-15, 4-0 AMC) got clutch hits late in both games to sweep WBU (17-8, 2-2 AMC) 2-1 and 3-1.
Track & Field
Conway, March 22 — Competing in town for the second time this season, CBC was at the Bill Stephens Track Complex for the Martin Invitational, hosted by Central Arkansas. Four men’s competitors were on the track and in the pit for competition. Evan East placed sixth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.27, the seventh fastest mark in program history and also placed seventh in the 200 with a time of 23.64. Chris Palmer lowered his previous record in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:07.96, finishing sixth in that event. Josh Brown placed fourth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:01.49, the seventh fastest mark in history and Solomon Barnes placed third in the long jump with a distance of 6.27 meters, the second-longest mark ever and just .02 off the program record.
