Janet Race Passes Away

Janet Carol Vail Race, 63 of Fairfield, Texas, passed away on Aug. 18. For 43 years, she was married to Shelby Race, who has served as worship pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfield, Texas for 38 years. She served as an educator for over 33 years until her retirement in 2019.

Other survivors include: a son, Jonathan Kirk of Ennis, Texas; a daughter, Amy (Greg) Rutledge of Bastrop, Texas; her mother, Lavonne Thames; a sister, Dianne (Mike) Hail; and a brother, Don (Polly) Vail.

A service was held on Aug. 21 at Calvary Baptist Church with Donny Parrish and Richard Smith officiating. Interment followed at Lake Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel (cappschapel.com).
